THE KEY OF DAVID by BILL BURNS
The Vision
In a vision I saw seven doors opening in the heavenlies, which are seven of the
gifts of the Spirit (next week). The key of David was required to open these
doors. The key of David is worship. David was a true worshiper, a man after
God’s heart whose voice was the voice of thanksgiving.
The Voice of Thanksgiving
Psalm 26:6-8 I will wash my hands in innocence; so I will go about Your altar, O
LORD, that I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all Your
wondrous works. LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house, And the place
where Your glory dwells.
Psalm 69:30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with
thanksgiving.
I will praise Him in song with the Spirit and with understanding – gift of
tongues and interpretation.
And, I will magnify Him with thanksgiving!
I want us to understand that thanksgiving is a form of worship – whether in song
or prayer or expressed out loud or silently, thanksgiving is the key of David.
It is also our key – thanksgiving expressed in worship.
Psalm 95:
1 Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our
salvation.
2 Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to
Him with psalms.
3 For the LORD is the great God, And the great King above all gods.
4 In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His
also.
5 The sea is His, for He made it; And His hands formed the dry land.
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
7 For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, And the sheep of His
hand. Today, if you will hear His voice:
Psalm 100:
1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!
2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.
3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be
thankful to Him, and bless His name.
5 For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all
generations.
The Sacrifice of Thanksgiving
Psalm 116:17 I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, And will call
upon the name of the LORD.
In the Old Testament sacrifices it is written that they be offered with
thanksgiving.
Leviticus 7:11-12 This is the law of the sacrifice of peace offerings which he
shall offer to the LORD: If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall
offer, with the sacrifice of thanksgiving, unleavened cakes mixed with oil,
unleavened wafers anointed with oil, or cakes of blended flour mixed with oil.
Leviticus 22:29 And when you offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD,
offer it of your own free will.
New Testament Prayer
Colossians 4:2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with
thanksgiving.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the
peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus.
Asking with thanksgiving means one receives the answer to the prayer while
asking, and expresses thanksgiving for the answer thereby calling those things
which are not as though they are.
Thanksgiving establishes focus.
Focus establishes faith.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
(Hebrews 11:1)
Thanksgiving – A Form of Worship
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you
were called in one body; and be thankful.
And maintain an attitude of thanksgiving. This will establish your heart in a
position after God, believing God, having faith in God rather than doubting Him
and accusing Him.
2 Corinthians 9:10-11: Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for
food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your
righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which
causes thanksgiving through us to God.
So, what have you been enriched in, and for what should you be continually
thankful for?
1. Salvation – thank You for saving my soul! Thank You for forgiving my sins.
Thank You for bringing me into Your kingdom.
John 1:12-13 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become
children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
2. Fellowship
1 Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship
of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thank You for allowing me to know you. Thank You for allowing me to hear Your
voice. Thank You for walking with me.
3. Empowerment
Thank You for giving me the Holy Spirit by whose power I can live in victory.
Holy Spirit, thank You for making Your gifts available to me.
4. Thank You, Jesus, for giving me authority and power of Satan.
5. Thank You for delivering me from Satan’s traps and for protecting me from
harms way.
6. Thank You for my daily bread and all that you have given me; your are my
Provider
7. Thank You, Jesus, for the stripes on Your back by which I am healed. Thank
You, Father, for the sufficiency of Your grace when I need it.
8. Thank You, Lord, for leading and guiding me on my path through this life.
9. Thank You for being my teacher and revelation.
10. Thank You for Your signs and wonders that give enlightenment and
confirmation.
And, there is more than you can express thanksgiving for on a personal basis:
His answers to prayer, His provision, His safety, and much more.
If you will learn the art of worship through the expression of thanksgiving
often, then you will have the Key of David, which opens and shuts.
Praise His Holy name! Glory be to God, Most High. He will inhabit the praises of
His people. Amen!
