Authority:

Matthew 6: 13  And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Luke 9:

1 Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.

2  He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Matthew 9:

6  "But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins" ——then He said to the paralytic, "Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house."

7  And he arose and departed to his house.

8  Now when the multitudes saw it, they marveled and glorified God, who had given such power to men.

Matthew 10: 1  And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

Luke 24: 49  "Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high."

Acts 1: 8  "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."

1 Corinthians 2:

4  And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,

5  that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

6  However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.

7  But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory,

8  which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9  But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."

10  But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

1 Corinthians 4: 20  For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

Ephesians 3:

20  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,

21  to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

2 Timothy 3:

1  But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

2  For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3  unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good,

4  traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

5  having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!

We step into authority when we understand our power through Jesus Christ!

SYMBOLS OF AUTHORITY:

Rod:  staff, branch (of the Vine) the great weapon, the stick!

John 15:

4  "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5        "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Exodus 4:

2  So the LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod."

3  And He said, "Cast it on the ground." So he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it.

4  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Reach out your hand and take it by the tail" (and he reached out his hand and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand).

Hand:  strength, power, human ability.  (partnership with God)

Exodus 4: 17  "And you shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs."

The rod was the extension of God’s hand through Moses to bring judgment on the enemy and freedom to God’s people.  Apostolic

Authority – to establish God’s Word and be an instrument of His signs and wonders, to have victory over the enemy.

Psalm 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion.  Rule in the midst of Your enemies.

Isaiah 11:4 … He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

Korah’s Rebellion:

Number 17:

2-3 “Speak to the children of Israel, and get from them a rod from each father’s house, all their leaders according to their fathers’ houses – twelve rods.  Write each man’s name on his rod.  And you shall write Aaron’s name of the rod of Levi.  For there shall be one rod for the head of each father’s house.

5 And it shall be that the rod of the man whom I choose will blossom; thus I will rid Myself of the complaints of the children of Israel …

8 Now it came to pass on the next day that Moses went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the rod of Aaron, of the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds.

10 The LORD said to Moses, “Bring Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony, to be kept as a sign against the rebels, that you may put their complaints away from Me, lest they die.”

Scepter of the King, ruler, protector, authority  (Esther was a type of the Bridal authority)

Esther 5:2  So it was, when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, that she found favor in his sight, and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther went near and touched the top of the scepter.

Esther 8:4  And the king held out the golden scepter toward Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king.

Psalms 125:3  For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest On the land allotted to the righteous, Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.

Staff – shepherd’s staff of authority and protection (pastoral authority)

Psalms 23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and

Your staff, they comfort me.

Mantle – office of authority of the prophetic authority

2 Kings 2:8  Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

2 Kings 2:

13  He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

14  Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, "Where is the LORD God of Elijah?" And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.

Keys – power over the enemy, hell and death

Matthew 16:19  "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,

and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Revelation 1:18  "I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and

of Death.

Luke 10: 19  "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and

nothing shall by any means hurt you.

The Name of Jesus – the power of salvation and answered prayer – believer’s authority

Luke 9:48  and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him

who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great."

John 14:

13  "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14  "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

John 14:26  "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to

your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 15:16  "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit

should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

John 16:

23  "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give

you.

24  "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Sword – judicial authority – words, the Word of God – warrior’s authority

Psalms 57:4  My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men Who are set on fire, Whose teeth are spears and arrows, And

their tongue a sharp sword.

Psalm 64:

1 Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

2  Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,

3  Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,

4  That they may shoot in secret at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.

5  They encourage themselves in an evil matter; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, "Who will see them?"

6  They devise iniquities: "We have perfected a shrewd scheme." Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.

7  But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they shall be wounded.

8  So He will make them stumble over their own tongue; All who see them shall flee away.

9  All men shall fear, And shall declare the work of God; For they shall wisely consider His doing.

10  The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory.

Ephesians 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Hebrews 4:12  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of

soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil:

1John 3:8  He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.  For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Jesus defeated Satan in every circumstance as He went preaching the gospel, healing the sick, casting out demons and raising the dead.  We are His body and will do these works and greater.

Mark 16:15-18  And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every

creature.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be

condemned.  And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons;

they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it

will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

John 14:12 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also;

and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.

God has given us weapons to fight against the devil:

2 Corinthians 10:4-6  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling

down strongholds,  casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Ephesians 6:

12  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

13  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

15  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

18  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints——

God has also given us the gifts of the Spirit for ministry and to use against the devil:

1Corinthians 12: 4-11  There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  There are differences of

ministries, but the same Lord.  And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all.  But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:  for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,  to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.  But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Our plan of attack is to preach the Word, apply the blood, use the word of your testimony, pray, praise and worship.
